No heat: checks to make before you call

A boiler over 20 years old: repair or replace

Twenty years is a reason to compare paths, not a deadline. A repair may remain reasonable when the heat exchanger and boiler body are sound, the failed part is available, the venting is serviceable, and the repair does not leave a known safety or reliability problem.

Replacement becomes more reasonable when leakage, repeated failures, unavailable controls, venting changes, or a poor load match make another repair weak value.
